Client stories: building secure thinking and governance

Enabling leadership teams to prioritise security requirements
A Whitehall-based political think tank and educational charity approached Build Secure Thinking to review their data infrastructure, governance and cybersecurity posture ahead of the arrival of a new COO. The goal was to provide the incoming leader with an overview of the current positiong and recommend priorities for their first 100 days on the job.
By reviewing existing governance and policy documentation, and following a series of stakeholder interviews, we provided a Gap Analysis report, highlighting key areas of focus for improvement including board level ownership, improved training capabilities and tightened policy on areas such as identity and access management. Build Secure Thinking also provided additional support to the new COO in the form of live training events and supporting learning materials for colleagues.
"Alison has done a fantastic job of demystifying cyber risk for our organisation. Her commitment to simplifying complex issues shines through in her approach and she has built our confidence and capacity to understand and effectively respond to cyber risk."

Supporting charity data management and training in challenging times
Two charities focussed on supporting young refugees came together to seek support with challenges they were facing around data governance, information sharing and client privacy. The need was felt particularly keenly in the changing political climate; their challenges included a lack of certainty around how leadership and policy should be formed on these topics.
Build Secure Thinking was able to make recommendations regarding use of security controls within their existing toolsets to enhance their data security capability, without any additional costs being incurred in infrastructure or outsourcing spending. Bespoke training for staff and volunteers enabled everyone to feel more confident in their skills and less intimidated by the tasks at hand.
"Thank you again for today’s workshop. We packed in a lot of very useful guidance and thinking together and this was down to your planning. Feedback was positive with the team saying how useful and empowering it was (and not overwhelming)."
